Colonel Michael Bauer has been the press spokesman of the Austrian Ministry of Defence for many years and is a specialist in crisis communication. His numerous appearances at press conferences and in front of running cameras shape his work, as does his long-standing experience in communicating complex and sensitive issues.

At Intomedia, Michael Bauer brings this experience to the workshop “True Crisis Stories!”. In this workshop, he accompanies participants through striking crisis cases and shows what matters in demanding communication situations. The focus is on clarity, credibility, preparation and the ability to communicate in a professional and comprehensible way even under pressure.

His practical experience as spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence makes him familiar with situations in which communication must be precise, resilient and responsible. Especially in times of crisis, it is not only important what is communicated, but also when, how and in which context. Michael Bauer shows how public communication in such situations can be prepared, managed and implemented.

He passes on his experience not only at Intomedia, but also as a lecturer at the University for Continuing Education Krems and at FH Campus Wien, among others. In this way, he combines operational communication experience with knowledge transfer and training.

Professional background

Colonel Michael Bauer graduated from the Theresian Military Academy and is a professional officer. After serving for five years as company commander of an armoured reconnaissance company, he was press officer at the International Operations Command from 1999 to 2003.

He studied political science at the University of Vienna and graduated from the Austrian College of Journalists in Salzburg. Since 2003, he has worked as a press officer at the Austrian Ministry of Defence. Since 2009, he has served as spokesperson for the Ministry and has been responsible for its crisis communication. In addition, he is a team trainer for leadership behaviour.

The combination of military leadership experience, political science, journalistic training and many years of work as a spokesperson forms the basis of his work. It gives him a practical understanding of communication in difficult, public and often dynamic situations.
