Johannes Fischer

Educational background
Studied communication and English at the University of Vienna, attended the Film Academy Vienna, and is a trained journalist.

Professional background
Johannes started his professional career as a motorsport reporter with the daily newspaper “Kurier”. In 1968 he turned to political news coverage for “Die Neue”, another Austrian daily.
In 1969 he began his radio career with the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ORF) “Radio-Journal” programme, and in 1975 became the youngest head of home affairs for ORF radio. In 1980 he moved into TV and later became chief editor of the political programme “Politik am Freitag” and then of “Inlandsreport”, the latter together with Peter Rabl. He returned to “Kurier” in the capacity of chief editor before moving back to the ORF. During Gerhard Zeiler’s time as Director-General, Johannes was the chief editor responsible for the news programme “Zeit im Bild 2” and for the discussion programmes “Betrifft” and “Österreich-Gespräch”. He hosted and chaired the “ORF-Sommergespräche” debates, was chief editor of “Thema” and finally chief editor of all ORF information magazine programmes and director of magazine and service programmes.
